Actually, the Association of University Technology Managers has been working on a Global Technology Portal (GTP) designed to provide a one-stop shop for corporations to find university technologies available for licensing. I think your comments are spot on in line with what we think on our side of the table.

The most comprehensive statistics on licensing terms is available from the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM…http://www.autm.net/Home.htm). You may have to pay to access their information, but they probably have the best data. Many of the federal agencies, like the Dept. of Energy, have a portal of all the patents and inventions across their laboratories, so you don’t have to visit each laboratory’s website (see: http://techportal.eere.energy.gov/). University TechWatch has a database of companies that have already been formed (http://www.utechwatch.com/startup-database/). I’m not familiar with RCT. The National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov/), which funds a lot of university research, has a comprehensive database on their website where you can search across the projects they have funded, although that won’t necessarily point you toward technologies that are available for license.

I’m sure there are many more resources than the ones I’ve identified here. Maybe people in the community can continue to populate this list.
